I have gotten a bit behind on updating the sports photography blog so for the sake of time I am going to recap the last couple weeks of April. Click on the header before each set of photos to view the full gallery of photos on my website and to order prints.
Kiernan is an avid skier and wanted to wait until Schweitzer mountain in Sandpoint, Idaho was covered with snow before he had his senior photos taken. We had a great day for photos with some good drama in the sky and such a great location overlooking lake Pend Orielle.
We started out with some poses with his skis the next two shots were the same pose from different directions but they are both processed a little bit differently in photoshop so I decided to include them both.
The location we were at had a great view of the valley and mountains but then when we turned around the other direction there was a rock cliff that when put out of focus made a nice natural backdrop.
Last night I was excited to set up my new remote “Glass Cam”, a remotely triggered camera installed on the back side of the basketball hoop and positioned to shoot through the glass backboard. The glass of the backboard at Sandpoint High School is almost certainly the same one installed when the school was built over 20 years ago and it certainly shows it’s wear and tear with quite a few scratches but even with the very imperfect glass to shoot through I was able to get a handful of fun shots. Here are some of the photos from the night for more photos from this game and the entire 2012-2013 season visit my website at this link: http://bit.ly/TmPJrS
Jordan Beyers helped me test out the focus on the remote and Camden Felton (Background) was just in the wrong place at the wrong time!
Lakeland’s Randy McCabe could not resist climbing the ladder for a dunk
Yesterday the Coeur d’Alene Vikings boys basketball teams traveled to Sandpoint to take on the bulldogs. I once again set up my remote “glass cam” but I made a few adjustments. I changed the positioning of the camera a bit and I set up two remotes on top of my camera, one to fire my strobes and another to fire the remote camera a fraction of a second later. This gave me the opportunity to capture the same game play from two different angles at virtually the same time. Here is a side by side example
Here are some more photos from the day, the complete gallery of photos from all three games can be found on my website at this link: http://bit.ly/TmPJrS
We lucked out with a rare partly sunny January day for this fun family portrait shoot near Newport. The bright sun and highly reflective snow creates it’s share of photographic challenges but the rewards can be so much fun!
Last night the Sandpoint Girls Basketball teams hosted their last regular season home games for the year as they hosted the Tigers from Timberlake High School. The JV, JVII and Varsity Teams all played and you can find individual galleries of each game on my website at this link: http://bit.ly/TmPJrS.
As is tradition the last regular season home game is Senior Night, last night Sandpoint celebrated their lone senior Jordan Speelmon.
As part of the celebration the entire team, including coach Bill Bender, sported custom made Jordan #22 headbands!
Last night it was time once again for the annual Moose Madness spirit games between Sandpoint High School and Bonners Ferry High School. This event features a variety of different competitions and one of the few things that is taken into consideration for the winning school is the score of the two basketball games that serve as the backdrop of the games. After the scores of the dance team, cheer leading fan spirit, stop and moose call competitions were tallied it was Bonners Ferry that was able to hold up the moose antlers in victory. One of the fun things we did in my home for Christmas was letting the kids make gingerbread houses. Technically they were not gingerbread houses because they were made from Graham Crackers, but they are the exact same concept. The kiddos did such a great job and their houses looked great so before allowing them to munch down on them we took them to the studio so we could get some photos of their architectural masterpieces! I helped the kids take some of their own photos and shot a few of my own. Check out these great houses.
After using the studio lights we turned out the lights and photographed a couple of the houses with a technique called light painting. This technique gives you a different look every time and I would have liked to do some more painting but at this point I did not want to deprive the kids of their sweet treats any longer.
