Connor’s Senior Photos – Moscow Class of 2014

Connor is a senior from the class of 2014 at Moscow High School, we met up in Coeur d’Alene to work together on his senior photos. Since music is such a big part of his life he spent a lot of time during out session with his guitar in his hands.

On our way between locations we came across a great lemonade stand and I could not resist asking permission to take a few portraits with the stand and the young entrepreneur running it.

We finished up with some colorful sunset shots by Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Clayton’s Senior Photos

June Bobble Head Portraits

When you use a wide angle lens, like my Canon 17-40, you have to pay close attention to the distortion that is created when you shoot the lens at the wider settings. The distortion is especially prominent when you shoot with a full frame camera body like the Canon 5D III. It is usually recommended that you try to avoid the distortion, especially when taking portraits but instead I have decided to start embracing it to make some fun, intentionally goofy portraits during my senior photo sessions. I have been calling these portraits my “Bobble Head Portraits”, the reason will be blatantly obvious as you view the photos!

The main goal of my senior sessions is to make sure that my clients look great, an important part of achieving that goal is to make sure that we always have a fun time working together and these Bobble Head Portraits are sure to bring a laugh or two. Micah’s Senior Portraits

Micah is a senior in the class of 2014 from Sandpoint High School, we worked on his senior portraits at a couple of locations around Sandpoint. Since Micah is a tennis player for Sandpoint we finished up our session at the tennis court where we had perhaps the most amazing sunset I have ever had during a portrait shoot!

Bella’s Rainy Day Senior Photos

This last spring I had a contest offering a free portrait session and digital photo package, Bella won that contest and chose to have senior photos taken. Bella is from Australia and this past year she was a foreign exchange student at Sandpoint High School. There was not a lot of time between her winning the contest and having to depart the states to return home so when her session day turned out to be a rainy one rescheduling was not an option. Instead, I put my Hydrophobia rain gear by Think Tank on the camera and we used some garbage bags to protect the flash and battery pack. Here is a photo of my assistant Pete with our make shift rain gear for the flash.

Our original plan was to take Bella’s photos with some of the buildings, landmarks and locations that are well known in Sandpoint. We were going to start at Scweitzer Mountain Resort, but the clouds were so low that we would have no worthwhile view so instead we just stuck to locations around town. We started out using the Panada Theater as a backdrop, then locations with a view of the Cedar Street Bridge, City Beach Sign, Powerhouse and Long Bridge.

Daranie’s Senior Photos – Session #2

Daranie is going to be a senior at Priest River High School and is one of my Class of 2014 Senior Models, I had an opening in the schedule so we squeezed in a second session to capture some senior photos! Just as with the first session (view that post here) we had a great June sunset with great clouds to finish up the session. June can be a tricky month for portraits because the weather can be so unpredictable and sometimes it rains the whole month, but it can also be one of the best months for great skies and sunsets!

Bradley’s Senior Photos

Bradley is a senior int the Class of 2014 from Bonners Ferry High School, we worked on his senior photos at three different locations around Sandpoint, Idaho. When we talked during our consultation Bradley mentioned that he was a huge comic book fan, especially Batman. I wanted to come up with a location where we could showcase some of his comic book collection where it would not look too out of place so I contacted Angela at Kokanee Coffee in Sandpoint and we were able to set up a time that we could come and set up a few quick shots at the coffee shop. It was a fun shot to set up and I am very thankful to Kokanee Coffee for letting us use their coffee shop!

Zach’s Senior Photos

Zach is a senior in the class of 2014 from Lake City High School, we took his senior photos at two different locations in the Coeur d’Alene area. The first location was a spot that he has enjoyed visiting for many years. While we were there someone set off what sounded like an M80 which prompted the property owner to send an entourage to find out who was setting off fireworks on their property. We benefited from this as they parked their classic Toyota Land Cruiser right by where were were taking photos so naturally we had to make use of it as a prop!

Pete’s Junkyard Portraits and More

Pete and I worked together on two different occasions to make his senior photos. The first time around we did some junkyard portraits with the goal of creating something a little edgy and dramatic followed by a few football themed portraits.

Our second session this spring was focused on getting the “softer side” of Pete which just did not fit well with the locations of our first session. For the second session we were in Montana. Pete went along with me to assist on another senior photo shoot and then afterwards we found a number of locations that worked great, the first of which could not have been more appropriate. Yes, that sign really does say Pete Creek, no Photoshop trickery here!

Lastly, here are a few other shots of Pete that I took during some of the other occasions that he filled in for my regular assistant and helped out on a shoot.

Daranie’s Senior Photos – Session #1

Daranie is going to be a senior at Priest River High School and is one of my Class of 2014 Senior Models, for her first session with me we worked on her senior photos at the ranch of a family friend. We had a great time and had the sun not set could have kept going for hours, but as you will see with photos from the end of our session I am very glad that the sun did indeed set because the sunset made for an amazing backdrop for the final part of our session.
