2011-2012 Sports Season

I know it feels like summer has barely started, but July is almost over and August is right around the corner.  That means that the fall high school sports season is not far away!  I recently downloaded fall season calendars for a number of the North Idaho teams and am beginning to formulate my plans for what games and teams I am going to be shooting this season.   I shoot freelance for a number of Northern Idaho papers as well as for idahosports.com, but as a freelancer I usually get to decide what games I am going to be covering.

Over the last year I have received quite a few requests from parents and athletes to come and photograph different games and teams and have tried to accommodate those requests as much as possible.  With many athletes and teams requesting photography I thought that I might publish a few tips.  So, how do you increase the odds of having Jason Duchow Photography show up to photograph your games?  I have two easy to remember tips.

1. Bribe me!  Yes, I can be bought!  Food is often tempting, but for those of you that recognize me you know I don’t need any more goodies!   Feel  free, however,  to offer me large sums of money!

2.  Buy prints or downloads!  This works kind of like the bribe, except it requires only small sums of money and you get high quality prints and high resolution digital files to keep forever!

One more bonus tip. Grab last year’s prints before the new school year starts.  Last year’s sports seasons will soon be completely lost in the dust of the new school year, cruise on over and get your prints from the 2010-2011 seasons before that happens!  Here is a link!

Here is to a great 2011-2012 sports season, I am looking forward to seeing some great action this year through one eye pressed hard against my viewfinder!

W.N.R.S.: Wednesday Night Ride 07/20/2011

Yesterday afternoon I was able to make it to another of All About Adventure’s 2011 Wednesday Night Ride Series races at Farragut State Park.  This time around my Assistant, affectionately known as my “voice activated light stand” was not able to make the trip.  Thankfully my trusty boom stand was able to make it along for the day, with the help of a bungee cord and a couple of helpful trees I was able to get a decent lighting set up.  Of course, being a little less mobile meant fewer shots than the last ride, but I got a some keepers anyway.  Here are some shots from the ride and the after ride festivities.  A link to the full gallery can be found at the bottom of the post.

The food was provided by 24 Hour For Hank, a non-profit organization seeking to raise money to combat a rare genetic disease called Cystinosis.  For more information about their organization and upcoming fund raising events check out their website at: http://www.24hoursforhank.org/

Cocolalla Teen Camp – Photo Booth (Sandpoint Photographer)

Day 4 at Cocolalla Lake Bible Camp’s Teen Camp started out with rain.  What a perfect day for a photo booth!  Of course Cocolalla had plenty of props and I had the right equipment so we set up for some photo booth action in the gym.  This was a ton of fun and we ended up with well over 300 great photos.  Here are a few samples.

Cocolalla Teen Camp – Day 3 (Sandpoint Photographer)

Day 3 of the Cocolalla Lake Bible Camp Teen Camp was a blast!  Of course there were a lot of wet games to be played, but this time one of those games came at a price.  During what was supposed to be a harmless game of “Water Bomb Baseball” a slippery bat went flying and found a new home in the back seat of the Assistant Director’s truck.  Of course the bat forgot to open the window first!  The first photos here are a little reenactment that we did for the camera.

Now that is some brotherly love!

And now for the final photo, check out last night’s amazing sunset!

Cocolalla Teen Camp – Day 1 & 2 (Sandpoint Photographer)

One of the things I look forward to about summer is camp!  For a number of years now I have had the privilege of being involved with Cocolalla Lake Bible Camp, they do a great job and have an outstanding staff of servant hearted people that love what they do!  This week they kicked off the summer camp season with the Teen Camp.  Here are a few shots from the first couple of days of camp.

W.N.R.S.: Wednesday Night Ride Series (Sandpoint Photographer)

Yesterday afternoon I made my way to Farragut State Park to photograph the opening night of the Wednesday Night Ride Series put on by All About Adventures and Selkirk Powder Company.  Here are a few shots from the event as well as a video.  Below the video you can find a link to the entire gallery where you can see all the photos and order prints.

Now for the Video . . . by the way the video is 720HD so if you have a fast enough internet connection feel free to change the settings to 720 and watch it full screen!

Marissa and Rhaelyn (Sandpoint Photographer)

A few days ago Marissa joked with me that the wait to see her photos was giving her an anxiety attack, a little sneak peek helped hold her over for a little while.  Now finally her wait is over, the editing is finished and the completed photos will upload tonight!  Here are a few more photos to hold her over until the morning.  You will see that she is not alone, we were also joined by her niece for a few photos as well.  If you want to see some more photos from this shoot see this link.

One more for fun.  Marissa has an interest in photography and she volunteered to help me out whenever my assistant Shea is not available.  So, I figured it would be good to give her a little job interview right on the spot.  Here is her resume, what do you think should I give her the job?

Hoopfest 2011 (Spokane Photographer)

This last weekend I attended and photographed my first Hoopfest. Thank you to everyone that helped me figure out the teams that would be there, I wish I could have gotten photos of every one of them, but unfortunately that was physically impossible!  This blog post features a few of my favorite photos from the day as well as a video at the bottom of the post. Look for the link to the entire gallery below the video.

Check out the video.  If you have a fast internet connection you can watch it full screen in full HD!

Demers Family (Sandpoint Photographer)

This last weekend the Dave and Cindy celebrated as their son Eric got married.  Just days before the event I had the opportunity to take their last set of family photos before Eric set of on the adventure of starting his own family.  I am blessed to have had the opportunity to capture this moment in time for such a great and beautiful family!

Kyle & Kelsey – Sports Portraits (Priest River Photographer)

This afternoon I met with Kyle and Kelsey, cousins from Priest River to shoot some portraits of them.  The sky was dramatic which I really liked, but unfortunately it did not hold on to it’s payload for very long.  We were able to get a few shots and then the wind blew over one of my light stands, right into the dirt of the baseball infield.  As we were cleaning it up the snow began to fall and in the distance it was clear it was only going to get worse.  So, once again this week I have another photo shoot that had to conclude only shortly after it began!  I am looking forward to getting together with these guys again soon to finish up what we started, here is a look at a few of the shots we were able to get before getting snowed out!
