The third championship game of the 2013 Idaho Girls State Basketball Tournament featured the 2A teams from North Fremont and Soda Springs High Schools. I always look forward to making the trip south the the Boise area in February for both the Idaho Girls State Basketball Tournament as well as the Boys Tournament. Last night I was excited to set up my new remote “Glass Cam”, a remotely triggered camera installed on the back side of the basketball hoop and positioned to shoot through the glass backboard. The glass of the backboard at Sandpoint High School is almost certainly the same one installed when the school was built over 20 years ago and it certainly shows it’s wear and tear with quite a few scratches but even with the very imperfect glass to shoot through I was able to get a handful of fun shots. Lakeland’s Randy McCabe could not resist climbing the ladder for a dunk
Yesterday the Coeur d’Alene Vikings boys basketball teams traveled to Sandpoint to take on the bulldogs. I once again set up my remote “glass cam” but I made a few adjustments. I changed the positioning of the camera a bit and I set up two remotes on top of my camera, one to fire my strobes and another to fire the remote camera a fraction of a second later. This gave me the opportunity to capture the same game play from two different angles at virtually the same time. Here is a side by side example

I covered my first wrestling match of the winter season last night as Lakeland and Moscow traveled to Sandpoint for an Inland Empire League tri-meet. For more photos from this event you can visit my website at this link: http://bit.ly/X37CP3
Part way through the evening I was informed that referee Merrill E. Owens, pictured below, would be retiring after this season and that he was also being inducted into the national wrestling hall of fame. I had already taken a number of photographs of both of the refs but I did focus a little bit more attention on getting a larger variety of photos of Mr. Owens after hearing that!
We lucked out with a rare partly sunny January day for this fun family portrait shoot near Newport. The bright sun and highly reflective snow creates it’s share of photographic challenges but the rewards can be so much fun!
For the first time I had the pleasure of covering the spirit games between Lakeland high School and Post Falls High School called The Prairie Pig. After all the events of the evening it was the Lakeland Hawks that took home the final prize.
