Adam and Darian – Engagement

This last spring I had the pleasure of capturing the memories of the beautiful wedding of Phil and Britt.  At the reception while I was taking some photos of the bride’s brother on the dance floor with his girlfriend someone approached me and said something to the effect of “there is the next wedding you will be photographing”.   I have had a number of weddings since that day, but part of what they said was true, because in less than two months I will have that honor!  This last week my assistant Shea and I spent a couple of hours with Adam and Darian as they braved the cold to have their engagement photos taken.  You will be able to tell from the photos that we had a very fun time and it was well worth getting our noses a little chilly!

Thankfully we were able to make our way inside for a while where it was not quite so chilly!

Luke and Hannah’s Birthday (Sandpoint Photographer)

Every year my daughter Hannah has a special birthday celebration with her friend Luke who was born 8 days before she was.  This year’s party was bitter sweet because “Buddy Luke” is going to be moving away in a month and this might very well be the last birthday that they will get to celebrate together.  Along with the usual birthday events we also set up a photo booth for the kids to have some fun with.  We came away with some images that made us laugh and of course since this is quite possibly the last time we celebrate together it also brought some tears.  Here are some of the fun shots to help us remember the day.

Here are the ones to make the momma’s cry!

Erin’s Senior Photos (Sandpoint Photographer)

Erin wanted an urban look to her senior photos and I was happy to oblige.  We had a great spot with a number of different options for us and even got a little creative with the lighting.

On the rest of the photos for this post we used some colored gels on two flashes to create a colored backdrop.

For this last photo we took it a step further.  I set up a couple of gelled lights for the background and then shot one flash through some lattice work to try to give a very different look to the photo by intentionally casting some patterned shadows.

Stearns Family (Sandpoint Photographer)

Recently I met up with the Stearns family to shoot their family photos.  We worked on some different group shots and also took each of the kids “School Pictures”.  Rather than the ordinary school photos, this year the family saved those pennies so they could get some more unique portraits when we did the family photos.  Rather than give each of them the same background and pose, we worked to try to give each of them their own unique photo that showed something of their personality.  This was a fun challenge and I think we came up with something fun for each of them.  Here are some of my favorites from afternoon.

Nick’s Senior Photos (Sandpoint Photographer)

Since Nick moved to Sandpoint a little over a year ago I have had the opportunity to capture images of him out on the football field and the basketball court.  Now in his senior year I was honored to have the opportunity to take his senior photos.  Here are some of the final results.

Nick’s brother was gracious enough to volunteer to help me fine tune my lighting while Nick was preparing for the next series of photos.

To finish  out this post, here is a football themed Senior Poster

Brayden’s Senior Photo (Sandpoint Photographer)

The Sandpoint High School deadline for Senior Photos is only a couple of days away so this week has had it’s share of last minute senior sessions.  Today I went out with Brayden, our goal was to get one particular shot today for the yearbook and then we will do a full blown senior session a bit later in the year.  This one shot needed to incorporate much about Brayden, his cymbals, his didgeridoo and if you know Brayden you know the hat had to be in there somewhere!  We found a great spot, asked the owner if we could borrow their front yard for a quick photos shoot and then we worked the shot until we had it just right.  It was not as easy as you would think, that pesky sun was very bright but with the help of Brayden’s grandmother doing some “Subtractive lighting” for me and a couple of flashes at full power we were able to get the right exposure.   Alright, enough words about the shot, here it is  . . .

Weekly Sports Recap (09/12/2011)

My sports coverage was a little lighter this week due to some portrait work and a wedding in Sacramento.   I love shooting sports but I also have to pay my bills so portrait and wedding work always takes priority!  I did make sure to schedule my flights for the wedding so that I would only miss a Saturday’s worth of games though.  Here is this weeks recap of my sports and sports related work this last week.

Tyler’s Senior Photos (Sandpoint Photographer)

Tyler and I arrived at Memorial Field in Sandpoint at the brink of dusk to shoot some dramatic football themed senior photos.  We had to work quickly to be able to get some shots of the victory bell in the background before it became too dark to capture it adequately.

After dark we had the opportunity to do some fun lighting . . .

At the end of our we set up some of my favorite shots of the evening, I put a couple of flashes in the stands to use as a background.  It is very possible that this is the last football season that those stands will be there so years from now I am sure Tyler will look back with fond memories of those stands that have seated thousands of fans for many years.

For the final photo of this post I compiled a Senior Poster mixing together a great shot from our time together and a couple of photos from the last two football seasons.

The Dilts Family (Sandpoint Photographer)

By the looks of the forecast and the rain clouds in the sky I thought for sure that I would have to postpone my photo shoot with this family, but I was wrong.  The oldest of the three boys would soon be heading off to the Army and the almost impossible task of getting the whole family in one place at the same time had been accomplished, so come rain of shine this photo shoot was on.  We did have to make some adjustments due to the rain but we found a place under a large tree to get a few group shots and then the rain let up just long enough for us to venture out from under the tree’s protection for a few more shots.

If you are trapped under a tree for your family photos, why not take advantage and “Family Tree” photo!

Of course the rain clouds did make for an interesting and dramatic sky, which we took advantage of!

George’s Senior Photos (Sneak Peek)

I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours with George on Schweitzer mountain where we went to take his Senior Photos.  I have been trying to get the editing finished, but one thing after another has come up and kept me away from the computer, so to hold George over for a little while longer here is a sneak peek of a couple of the photos I have finished.
